Colorwashing

Informal and airy
Create lively, rustic, or pastoral atmosphere

Base Coat : National Vinyl Silk Glaze : National Special Effect , Water .

Steps:
  1. Apply the base coat and let it dry for 2days .
  2. Mask the ceiling and walls adjacent to where you will be working. Mix the glaze before used (When using more than one can it is advisable to mix them together in a larger container or finish in a corner before starting a new can)and pour some of it into the paint try.
  3. Beginning near the top corner, loosely brush the glaze onto the wall in random, crisscross strokes, leaving some of the base coat exposed. Stop the brush strokes several inches from the top or side corners and using the same brush work the glaze into and away from the corner. Cover an area about 3' in diameter. Blend in the strokes by lightly and repeatedly going over the area with the brush.

  4. Repeat, starting below the area you just covered. Be sure to blend your strokes into the previously covered area.
  5. Repeat, working alternately next to and below the area completed, until the wall is done.
  6. The completed colorwashing is light and airy, with evident brush strokes that make the effect informal, even rustic.

Tips:
  • To minimize demarcation lines between the areas of application, work with a partner, each of you working along different edges.
  • Your brush stokes can be crude as you apply the glaze, but keep an eye out for drips and immediately brush them out.
