Problem Solving Foaming / Cratering Formation of bubbles (foaming) and resulting small, round concave depressions (cratering). Cause: Use of old or low quality paint. Applying paint too rapidly, especially while rolling. Excessive rolling or brushing of the paint. Shaking a partially filled can of paint. Solution: Use of high quality paint because the bubbles break while the paint is still wet. Avoid excessive rolling. Apply a proper primer. Apply gloss or semi-gloss paints with a short nap roller.
