Problem Solving
Foaming / Cratering
Formation of bubbles (foaming) and resulting small, round concave depressions (cratering).
Cause:
- Use of old or low quality paint.
- Applying paint too rapidly, especially while rolling.
- Excessive rolling or brushing of the paint.
- Shaking a partially filled can of paint.
Solution:
- Use of high quality paint because the bubbles break while the paint is still wet.
- Avoid excessive rolling.
- Apply a proper primer.
- Apply gloss or semi-gloss paints with a short nap roller.
