Problem Solving Wrinkling A rough crinkled surface caused by a drying interference and forming a wrinkled skin. Cause: Applying the paint too thickly. Applying topcoat of paint to insufficiently cured primer. Painting during extreme hot or cool/damp conditions will force the paint to skin rather than cure properly. Painting over contaminated surface. Solution: The wrinkled layers must be totally removed by sanding/scraping. If using a primer, allow it to dry completely before applying topcoat. Spread uniformly and avoid temperature and humidity extremes.
