Problem Solving

Wrinkling

A rough crinkled surface caused by a drying interference and forming a wrinkled skin.
Cause:
  • Applying the paint too thickly.
  • Applying topcoat of paint to insufficiently cured primer.
  • Painting during extreme hot or cool/damp conditions will force the paint to skin rather than cure properly.
  • Painting over contaminated surface.
Solution:
  • The wrinkled layers must be totally removed by sanding/scraping.
  • If using a primer, allow it to dry completely before applying topcoat.
  • Spread uniformly and avoid temperature and humidity extremes.
